MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University head women's basketball coach
Sheila Green Gerding announced the signing of three student-athletes – Kimberly Bernice Satterwhite, Olivia Sheehan and Alliyah Bryant – to National Letters of Intent to compete for the Beavers this upcoming season.
All three come from different backgrounds and will enter Minot State at different stages of their respective careers as Satterwhite is an incoming junior college transfer, Sheehan is a transfer from California State University-Los Angeles and will be a sophomore and Bryant will enter school as a freshman having played at Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Ariz., this past season.
Satterwhite is a 5-foot-5 guard from Middletown, Ohio, who spent two seasons at Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Okla. She averaged 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 31 games. She ranked second in her conference in steals with 86, sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.8 and 13th overall in assists. Satterwhite was a first team all-conference and honorable mention Southwest Ohio performer for Lakota East High School as a prep.
"Bernice gives us some needed experience at the point guard position," said Green Gerding. "She sees the floor well, can create off the bounce and is a good court leader. She's also a terrific kid and a good fit for our program."
Sheehan is a 6-foot guard from Springfield, Australia who attended the same high school, Abbotsleigh, as MISU standouts Christina and
Carly Boag. Sheehan averaged 1.2 points and .8 rebounds in 13 games for Cal State-LA that was 17-11 last season. She was a team captain and earned the NSWCIS Red Award in 2010 as a prep player.
"Olivia is a solid long-range shooter with the ability to get to the rim or post smaller guards," Green Gerding said. "Her length is a huge advantage as she will help us on the boards and especially on the defensive end. Olivia is a perfect fit in helping with our team chemistry as well."
Bryant is a 5-foot-7 shooting guard from Gilbert, Ariz., where averaged 7.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per game for Mesquite High School. She helped lead the Wildcats to a 26-6 record and an appearance in the Arizona Division I State Basketball quarterfinals. She played club basketball for Team Arizona.
"Alliyah is a consistent shooter with excellent range," said Green Gerding. "She will need to adapt to the speed of the college game but is a hard worker and a terrific kid."
Minot State is coming off its best season as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, going 19-9 in 2013-14 and a berth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference / Sanford Health Women's Basketball quarterfinals. The Beavers have signed six student-athletes for the upcoming season including four incoming freshmen, one incoming sophomore and one incoming junior.
