MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University has signed two standouts from Sweden to complete on the men's basketball team in 2011-12 as
Omar Zaghdane and
Viktor Henriksson have signed letters of intent to play for the Beavers this season.
Zaghdane is a 6-foot-8 power forward from Stockholm, Sweden. He played basketball in high school for Fryshuset Gymnasium and has played in more than 100 games for the Swedish National team at the U16, U18 and U20 levels. This past year he played for the club team 08 Stockholm where he averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds.
“Our staff travelled far and wide this summer in search of skilled bigs. We feel very fortunate to have the likes of Omar on our roster,” said MSU head coach Peter Stewart. “At 6-8 and a true 240 pounds, he is a load. Omar has a ton of experience against some very good competition.”
Henriksson, a 6-foot-4 guard, comes to Minot from Uppsala, Sweden. He played most recently for Boras Basket, a club team, averaging 12 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. He is a graduate of Ostra Gymnasieskolan where he was a member of the U18 and U20 teams, earning team Most Valuable Player honors at U18 championships. Henriksson also attended Sweden's Junior National Team Camps.
“Viktor is a very skilled basketball player,” Stewart said. “He brings a rare combo of point guard abilities and can shoot the ball. He is a very skilled passer as well. At 6-4 and very strong, he will be an exciting addition to the team.”
MSU has signed three players for the upcoming season as the pair of Swedish players join
