ROLLA, Mo. – Minot State softball's
Jen Dixon (Jr., OF/P, Brandon, Manitoba),
Tiffany Friesen (Sr., 1B/P, Morden, Manitoba) and
Mandy Greenberg (Sr., P, Winnipeg, Manitoba) earned Daktronics All-American honors, officials announced Thursday afternoon.
Dixon was named First Team All-American, Friesen was named Third Team All-American and Greenberg was named Honorable Mention All-American.
The trio from Manitoba helped Minot State to a 41-11 overall record in 2013. The Beavers finished second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament and also competed in their first ever NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Dixon led the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in hitting with a .447 average and was recently named the Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year as well as the NSIC Player of the Year. She had 17 doubles, six triples and 12 home runs, while driving in 50 runs throughout the year.
This marks the first time in school history a Minot State student-athlete has earned First Team All-American honors as members of the NCAA Division II.
Friesen was striking both as a hitter and as a pitcher in 2013. She batted .378 in 52 games for the Beavers, leading the team with a team-record 16 home runs and 62 RBIs. She is the team's career home run leader with 24 total. In the circle, Friesen finished with a 13-6 record and 142 strikeouts in 141 innings pitched.
Greenberg went 25-5 with a 1.12 earned run average in 37 appearances in the circle. She finished with 16 complete games, including a complete game, four-hitter to win 1-0 over Emporia State University in MISU's first-ever NCAA Tournament win last weekend at the Central Regional 1 Tournament in Hays, Kan. She collected 258 strikeouts in 168.2 innings pitched and held opponents to a .161 average during her senior year.
Katie Martin of Grand Valley State was named Ron Lenz Player of the year while Kayla Cox of University of Tampa was named Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year. Lindsay Erickson and Samantha Holien of Minnesota State were the only other NSIC players named to any Daktronics teams in 2013.
